Title Cashier
Summary Provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Cain’s Grocery customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous, and cooperative with other store employees. Politely and pleasantly greet and assist customers; Weigh, scan, and bag groceries; Handle cash and operate terminal; Maintain a clean workstation.
Responsibilities *Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.

*Greet customers entering the store if possible.

*Greet all customers in line in a polite and pleasant manner.

*Weigh items sold by weight in order to determine prices.

*Complete all sales transactions: Cash, Check, Credit Card, Debit Card, WIC, and EBT.

* Cash checks in accordance with policy.

*Thank customers for their patronage.

*Compute and record totals of transactions.

*Issue receipts, and change due to customers.

*Redeem manufacturers’ coupons.

*Complete transaction by placing bagged items in customer’s cart.

*Offer customers carry-out service at the completion of transactions.

*Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.

*Request information or assistance using paging systems.

*Operate cash till, balancing the till at the end of your shift.

*Return “re-shops” to departments as necessary.

*Report to work on time, as scheduled and dressed appropriately for the position.

*Understand and abide by the Personnel Rules, Policies and Procedures of the Company.

* Answer customers’ questions, and provide information on sales or weekly specials.

*Maintain a clean workstation.

* Know weekly specials.

*Retrieve grocery carts from parking lot.

*Clock in and out for meal periods.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements *General knowledge of customer service principles and processes

* Basic skill to operate computerized cash register and barcode reader.

*Basic arithmetic skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide.

*Ability to read and interpret documents such as department manual.

*Ability to communicate orally to customers and co-workers

*Ability to deliver exceptional customer service to customers

*Ability to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining a high energy level.

*Ability to stand for extended periods of time, with limited break opportunities.

*Ability to effectively manage time.

*Ability to understand and abide by the Personnel Rules, Policies and Procedures of the Company.

*Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.

*High School diploma or GED equivalency.

*Must Pass Produce Code Test

* Must pass WIC Grocery Training

* Must pass ABC Responsible Vendor test, if required.

Physical Demands Incumbents in this position must:
*Constantly stand, bend, stretch and stoop, for extended periods of time, while at work station.*Constantly lift, reach and pick-up, objects to be scanned at workstation.*Constantly identify barcode by handling, rotating and viewing items to be swiped.*Frequently lift, carry, or otherwise move bagged grocery items weighing up to 20 lbs. from the workstation and place in grocery cart.*Occasionally lift, carry or otherwise remove/replace items weighing up to 40 lbs. out of/into grocery carts.
Environmental Conditions Duties of this position are generally conducted indoors, in a heated or cooled area, typical of a large grocery store.
Occasionally, incumbents may have to operate outdoors for special events.
